Frequently asked questions

How can I try JumpMoney with example data?

Go to More › Settings › Load Sample Data and tap Add Sample Data. It adds about three months of example accounts, transactions, budgets, bills, goals, debts, investments and assets in your base currency. You can also switch on Add Sample Data on the last welcome screen.

Sample data is only ever added, never used to replace your own entries. To start fresh afterwards, use Erase All Data.

How do I back up my data?
  1. Open More › Backup & Export.
  2. Choose whether to Include Receipt Images. They can make the file large.
  3. Optionally turn on Protect with Password and enter a password of at least 8 characters. The backup is then encrypted with AES-256.
  4. Tap Create Backup, then Save to Files… (for example to iCloud Drive) or Share Backup… (for example with AirDrop).

You can also turn on Weekly Backup. JumpMoney then keeps its five newest automatic backups inside the app, without receipt images. Touch and hold one to save a copy to Files.

Keep your backup password safe. JumpMoney never stores it and can't recover a forgotten password. Automatic backups are deleted along with the app, so save a copy to Files now and then.

How do I restore a backup?
  1. Open More › Backup & Export › Restore from Backup… and pick the backup file. For an automatic backup, tap it in the Automatic Backups list instead.
  2. If the file is password-protected, enter its password.
  3. Check the preview, then choose Replace All Data (swap everything on this device for the backup) or Merge with Existing Data (add only what's missing).
How do I move JumpMoney to a new iPhone or iPad?

JumpMoney has no cloud account, so you move your data with a backup file:

  1. On your old device, create a backup (see How do I back up my data?) and save it to iCloud Drive or AirDrop it to the new device.
  2. On the new device, install JumpMoney from the App Store and open it.
  3. Go to More › Backup & Export › Restore from Backup…, pick the file and choose Replace All Data.

Setting up the new device from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one, or with Quick Start, usually brings JumpMoney's data along too, because iOS includes app data in device backups. Make a JumpMoney backup file first anyway, just in case.

Does JumpMoney sync between my devices?

No, by design. Your data never leaves the device it was entered on. To copy it to another device, make a backup and restore it there.

How do I lock JumpMoney with Face ID?

Turn on More › Settings › App Lock. JumpMoney then asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode every time it opens, and hides its screen in the app switcher.

  • "App Lock Unavailable": your device has no passcode. Set one in Settings › Face ID & Passcode first.
  • Face ID is never offered: in the iOS Settings app, open Face ID & Passcode › Other Apps and allow JumpMoney. You can always unlock with your passcode instead.
  • For extra privacy, Hide Amounts (in the same section) shows •••• instead of numbers.
What is Live Prices, and what does it send?

Live Prices is an optional setting (More › Settings › Live Prices) that is off by default. When you turn it on, JumpMoney downloads public currency exchange rates (about twice a day, or when you tap Update exchange rates now) and gold, silver, platinum, palladium and copper spot prices.

Each request asks only for prices in a currency. No account, identifiers, cookies or financial data are sent. With Live Prices off, JumpMoney never goes online and uses the rates you enter under More › Currencies. The privacy policy lists the exact services contacted.

My rates didn't update:

  • "No other currencies are in use yet" means all your accounts use your base currency, so there is nothing to convert.
  • "Live prices aren't available in …" means the price service doesn't cover that currency. Enter its rate by hand under Currencies.
  • If you're offline, JumpMoney keeps using the last downloaded or manual rates.

Note that an exchange-rate update replaces rates you typed in by hand for the currencies you use.

How do bill reminders work?

Turn on More › Settings › Reminders & Alerts and allow notifications. JumpMoney reminds you at 9:00 on the day you choose before a bill, card payment or loan instalment is due, and alerts you when a budget nears its limit. Reminders are scheduled on your device. Touch and hold a bill reminder to Mark Paid or Skip without opening the app.

While Hide Amounts or App Lock is on, notifications leave out amounts, because they can appear on the Lock Screen.

Can I use Siri or Shortcuts?

Yes. Say, for example, "Add an expense in JumpMoney", "Add income in JumpMoney", "Transfer money in JumpMoney" or "What's my balance in JumpMoney", or add these actions in the Shortcuts app. They work offline and need your device to be unlocked. Balances are never spoken while Hide Amounts or App Lock is on.

Can I import my bank statement?

Yes. Download a CSV, OFX/QFX or QIF statement from your bank's website, then open More › Backup & Export › Import Bank Statement…. You can map columns for CSV files and preview the rows first. Duplicates are skipped, and your Auto-Categorize Rules are applied. JumpMoney never connects to your bank directly.

How accurate are the salary and tax results?

Salary & Tax, capital gains and the calculators give estimates to help you plan. They are not financial or tax advice. Each country screen shows the tax year and assumptions it uses, and the built-in countries list their official sources. Tax rules change and personal situations vary, so check important figures with a qualified professional or your tax authority before you file or make decisions.

Local gold and silver prices are also estimates, based on the international spot price plus the duty, tax and local premium you can adjust.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to More › Settings › Erase All Data, type DELETE and confirm. Every account, transaction, budget, goal, debt, investment, asset and receipt on the device, and the automatic backups, are permanently deleted. Default categories and an empty Cash account are then recreated.

Deleting the app also removes everything stored in it. Backup files you saved elsewhere, for example in Files or iCloud Drive, are not affected, so delete those yourself if you want them gone. We hold no copy of your data, so there's nothing more to delete on our side.
