Privacy Policy
The short version
- Your financial data is stored only on your device. We never receive it.
- There is no account, and there are no ads, analytics, tracking or third-party SDKs. We run no servers.
- The app goes online only if you turn on Live Prices, which is off by default. It then downloads public exchange rates and metal prices, and it sends nothing about you.
- Backups and exports go only where you choose to send them.
1. Who we are
JumpMoney is developed and published by BalaSriharsha Cheeday ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to information when you use the JumpMoney app. Because JumpMoney is built to keep your data on your device, it is short.
2. What is stored on your device
Everything you enter or create in JumpMoney is saved in the app's private storage on your iPhone or iPad:
- accounts, balances, transactions, categories, tags, notes, payees and auto-categorize rules;
- budgets, savings goals, bills, subscriptions and other recurring items;
- debts and loans, the names of friends you split expenses with, and your shared expenses;
- investment holdings and trades, manual assets and liabilities, and your net-worth history;
- receipt images you scan or attach;
- salary and tax calculator inputs, exchange rates, downloaded prices and your settings;
- automatic weekly backups, if you turn them on (see section 5).
This data is not synced to iCloud or anywhere else by JumpMoney, and we cannot see it. It stays on your device until you erase it in the app or delete the app.
Your device's own backups: if you back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud Backup or to a computer, iOS may include JumpMoney's data in that backup, as it does for most apps. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple, and Apple's Privacy Policy covers them. We have no access to them.
3. What we collect: nothing
We do not collect, store, sell or share any personal information or usage data. Specifically, JumpMoney:
- has no user accounts and never asks for your name, email or phone number;
- contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or other third-party SDKs;
- does not track you across apps or websites, and does not use the advertising identifier;
- does not connect to your bank, and never sees your bank credentials;
- does not use your location, contacts or health data;
- sends no push notifications. All reminders are scheduled on your device.
This is why JumpMoney's App Store privacy label says "Data Not Collected".
4. Live Prices (optional, off by default)
JumpMoney works fully offline. It connects to the internet only if you switch on Settings › Live Prices. Before it turns on, the app shows you exactly what it will download. When Live Prices is on, the app downloads public price data from these services over encrypted HTTPS connections:
| Service contacted | What it provides | When |
|---|---|---|
cdn.jsdelivr.net (jsDelivr CDN) | Daily currency exchange rates from the free, public-domain currency-api dataset | About twice a day while automatic updates are on, or when you tap Update |
latest.currency-api.pages.dev (Cloudflare Pages) | A backup copy of the same dataset, used only if the first service fails | Only as a fallback |
api.gold-api.com (Gold API) | Gold, silver, platinum, palladium and copper spot prices | When you open Gold & Silver Rates, and about every 6 hours while you have an asset valued by metal weight |
What is sent
Only what is needed to ask for a price list: a currency code (for example inr) and a metal symbol in the web address, plus the fixed text "JumpMoney" as the app name. The requests contain no account, no identifiers, no cookies and none of your financial data. The app uses a private, temporary connection that does not store cookies or cache responses.
What those services may see
Like any website you visit, these services necessarily see your device's IP address and the time of the request, and they may keep ordinary server logs under their own policies (see jsDelivr's terms and policies, Cloudflare's privacy policy and Gold API's terms). We have no relationship with them beyond using their public data, and we receive nothing from them.
Downloaded rates and prices are saved on your device. When an exchange-rate update runs, it replaces the rates you typed in by hand for the currencies you use. You can turn Live Prices off at any time, and JumpMoney will go back to working entirely offline.
5. Backups and exports you create
- Full backups (More › Backup & Export) are made only when you ask for one. You choose where the file goes, for example the Files app, iCloud Drive, AirDrop or email. Once you send a file somewhere, that service's own terms apply to it.
- Password protection: you can protect a backup with a password. It is then encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using a key derived from your password (PBKDF2). We never see or store your password and cannot recover it. Backups without a password are not encrypted, so keep them somewhere private.
- Automatic weekly backups are kept inside JumpMoney's private storage on your device, protected by iOS data protection. The newest five are kept. They are not encrypted with a password, receipt images are not included, and they are deleted when you use Erase All Data or delete the app.
- CSV and PDF exports and bank-statement imports (CSV, OFX, QFX, QIF) are processed entirely on your device.
6. Permissions and why they are needed
JumpMoney asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it, and every one is optional.
- Face ID / Touch ID: used only for the optional App Lock. Apple's system checks your face or fingerprint, and JumpMoney only learns whether the check succeeded. It never receives biometric data.
- Camera: used only to scan receipts. Text on the receipt is read on your device using Apple's Vision framework, and the image is stored only with the transaction on your device.
- Photos: "Attach Photo" uses the system photo picker, which gives JumpMoney only the photo you pick. The app never asks for access to your photo library.
- Notifications: used for reminders about bills, card payments, loan instalments and budget limits. They are scheduled on your device. Amounts are left out of notification text while Hide Amounts or App Lock is on, because notifications can appear on the Lock Screen.
- Siri & Shortcuts: lets you add transactions or hear a balance by voice. These actions run on your device and require it to be unlocked. Apple processes voice requests under its own privacy policy.
You can change these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
7. Apple services
Apple distributes JumpMoney through the App Store and may collect information about downloads, purchases and device diagnostics under Apple's Privacy Policy. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and aggregate usage statistics. They do not identify you, and we use them only to fix bugs. The JumpMoney app itself sends nothing.
8. Security
Your data lives in the app's sandbox and is protected by iOS data protection. Backup files are written with complete file protection. You can add App Lock (Face ID, Touch ID or passcode) and Hide Amounts for extra privacy. When App Lock is on, JumpMoney also covers its screen in the app switcher. Your data's security also depends on your device, so please use a device passcode.
9. Children
JumpMoney is a general-audience finance app. It is not directed at children, and it collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live).
10. Your choices and rights
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf, and nothing we could sell or share. You control your data directly in the app:
- Export everything at any time: More › Backup & Export.
- Delete everything: More › Settings › Erase All Data. This also removes the automatic backups. Or delete the app.
- Stay offline: leave Live Prices off.
These rights apply wherever you live, including under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. If a future version of JumpMoney ever changes how data is handled, for example by adding a feature that sends data off your device, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before that version is released, and describe the change in the release notes.
